About the Chemistry Department

Three sections

First: Section of physical and inorganic chemistry:
In this section, student studies six hours per week. These six hours are distributed as two hours per week for each of the following subjects:
1- Physical Chemistry
2- Inorganic Chemistry
3- Organic or physical Organic Chemistry
Second: Section of organic and physical organic chemistry
The student study two hours per week in each of the following subjects:
1- Organic Chemistry
2- Physical organic chemistry
3- Physical or Inorganic chemistry
Third: Section of Biochemistry
The students study two hours per week in each of the following subjects:
1- Carbohydrates, fats and proteins
2- Enzymes and metabolism
3- Vitamins, hormones and nutrition

1- Diploma in analytical chemistry
It includes two main subjects
    1) A course in instrumental analysis
    • two lectures per week ( one hour each )
    • Eight hours experimental work per week
These cover the following topics : Spectroscopy, polargraphy, optical measurements, thermal analysis, potentiometry , isotope analysis ,microanalysis and glass works
    2) an advanced courses in analysis chemistry
    • Four lectures per week (one hour each)
    • Six teen hours experimental work
These cover the following topics : food analysis ,microelemental analysis ,analysis of fats ,oils and paints, analysis of carbohydrates ,analysis of soil, analysis of smoke ,analysis of industrial organic materials,analysis of yeast ,analysis of alloys.
2- Diploma in applied chemistry
It includes two main subjects
    1) acours in instrumental analysis as mentioned in the " Analytical chemistry diploma "
    2) Acours to be selscted by the department for four lectures per week ( one hour each ) and sixteen hours experimental work per week .
    The study covers two or more of the following topics :
    • High polymers and cellulose industries
    • Dyes ,paints and colouring materials
    • corrosion , surface activity , catalysis and mineral extraction
    • glass ,cemeni , ceramic and fertilizers
    • fats ,oil and waxes , leather works
    • Oil refining , petrochemicals, cleansing materials
    • Strach,fermentation and aromatics
    • Analvsis of water , sewage and health chemistry
