1962 |
In the very beginning, the University of Tanta was founded under Presidential Decree No. 1468 for the year 1962 as a branch of the University of Alexandria. the decision assured on the establishment of the Faculty of Medicine in Tanta. |
1969 |
This was followed by the establishment of the Faculties of Science, Education in Tanta and Agriculture in Kafr Al-Sheikh in 1969. |
1972 |
The year 1972 was the threshold of a milestone in the history of the University of Tanta, the issuance of Law No. 49 of 1972 which provided in paragraph (a. E) the establishment of the University of Central Delta in Tanta and then edit the name later in 1973 to become the University of Tanta, and thus it becomes the fifth university in the Arab Republic of Egypt after Cairo University , Assiut, Alexandria and Ain Shams. |
1973 |
The establishment of university colleges in succession to a total of 18 including 12 in the Faculty of Tanta, 6 branch of the University in Kafr Al-Sheikh, where the Faculty of Commerce was established in 1973. |
1975 |
Monoufia University Separated. Faculty of Arts was also established in the same year.

1976 |
Established colleges of pharmacy, dentistry and engineering in 1976, the College of Education Branch, Kafr El-Sheikh in 1977. |
1980 |
Faculty of Law was established in 1980. |
1989 |
Established the Faculty of Specific Education in 1989 and which was subordinated to the Ministry of Education, but has joined the University of Tanta, Presidential Decree No. 329 of 1998, the study began in the Faculty of Engineering in 1991 as branch of the same college and the Faculty of Commerce branch in Kafr Sheikh in the same year. |
1993 |
Established the Faculty of Agriculture, Faculty of Arts branch in Kafr Sheikh in 1993, and established the Faculty of Physical Education in 1994 and started working classes, Faculty of Physical Education University branch in Kafr Sheikh in 1997. |
2000 |
29/4/2000 have been converted at the Higher Institute of Nursing to College of Nursing in Tanta and add it to the colleges of nursing in Egypt. |
2006 |
The Kafr El-Sheikh Branch separated from Tanta University in August 2006 under the name of Kafr El-Sheikh University, where the University of Tanta played a pivotal role in the establishment of the basic nascent university.
The number of university colleges are currently 13 colleges and technical institutes, followed by 28 units of a special character. |
