Language courses

On March 3, 2011, University Council decided to approve modifying the decree of University Council issued on April 28, 2010 regarding rules and measures of certificate of excellence at foreign language that qualifies for registration for master’s and PhD degrees to be as follows:

  •   Gaining the certificate of excellence at foreign language is a condition for discussion of master’s and PhD theses not a condition for registration. .
  •   The certificate of excellence at foreign language is one of the following alternatives:
    • INSTITUTIONAL TOEFL from AMIDEAST.
    • ILETS from the British Council.
    • Certificate of language excellence from Languages and Continuing Education Center accredited by the University.
    • Certificate of language excellence that was previously presented for the master’s degree. It can be used for the PhD degree if the required mark for the PhD is gained.
      The language level required for discussion of scientific theses (master’s and PhD) is as follows:
    • First: In TOEFL certificate (450 for master and 500 for PhD) and in ILETS certificate (4 for master and 5 for PhD) for faculties of Medicine, Dentistry, Pharmacy, Engineering, Science and Nursing and departments and divisions of languages at faculties of Arts, Law, Commerce and Education.
    • Second: In TOEFL certificate (400 for master and 450 for PhD) and in ILETS certificate (4 for master and 4.5 for PhD) for faculties of Commerce, Law, Agriculture, Education, Specific Education, Physical Education and Arts.
  •   This decree is applied to students who have not registered for the master’s or PhD degree until September 18, 2010.

Languages and Continuing Education Center at Tanta University
Languages and Continuing Education Center at Tanta University was established with a decree by Minister of State for Higher Education and Scientific Research No. 154 on June 24, 2010 after the approval from University Council on April 28, 2010 and the decree of University President No. 635 on May 6, 2010.
In order to fulfill the wish of many postgraduate students “master- PhD” and to help implement University Council decree issued in its session held on April 28, 2010 concerning the necessary of getting an international English language certificate such as Academic IELTS or International TOEFL as one of the requirements of registration for master’s or PhD degrees with effect from the academic year 2010-2011 according to the following grades of excellence:

  •  Academic LELTS (4.5 for M.Sc.) and (5.0 for Ph.D)
  •  International TOEFL (400 for  M.S.C) and (450 for Ph.D)

And in the framework of the convention signed between Tanta University and the British Council, Languages and Continuing Education Center is pleased to announce holding training courses to prepare for Academic IELTS test, in addition to performing the test at the Center under supervision of the British Council.

Taking a Language Course at Languages and Continuing Education Center for Diploma Students at Faculty of Medicine
On September 30, 2013, University Council approved on the fact that diploma students at Faculty of Medicine have to take an English language course at Languages and Continuing Education Center or International Studies Center for Distance learning according to the determined level.

Decree of University Vice President Regarding Taking back the Fees of Language Course:

  • Article (1): Deans of faculties are authorized to approve reimbursement of the fees of English language courses to demonstrators and assistant lecturers at English language centers accredited by the University according to instructions and adopted rules.
  • Article (2): This decree is applied with effect from its date.
  • Article (3): Deans of faculties and all related bodies must implement this decree each in its specialty with effect from its date. 

On March 2, 2011, University Council approved what was mentioned in the decree of Postgraduate Studies and Research Council of February 22, 2011 concerning the right of demonstrators and assistant lecturers at Faculty of Engineering to get back exam fees of the required foreign language excellence certificate according to the decree of University Council in this regard provided that a student passes the test at least for one time in each degree. The Faculty will pay exam fees which will be reimbursed to demonstrators and assistant lecturers. This decree will be applied at the rest of University faculties.

Rules of University Instructor Preparation Course

  • On August 28, 1991, University Council decided to approve beginning implementation of university instructor preparation course for demonstrators and assistant lecturers at University faculties.
  • Article (150) of Universities Organization Law stipulates that demonstrators and assistant lecturers must learn foundations of teaching and training according to the adopted system.
  • Article (59) of the executive bylaw of Universities Organization Law stipulates that assistant lecturers and demonstrators must get training in general and specific foundations of training in the form of curricula, symposiums or practical lessons according to the circumstances of each faculty and the rules established by University Council.
  • Students from outside the University are allowed to take part in these courses if there are available places for them after taking demonstrators and assistant lecturers provided that a student pays the fees of the course according to the decree of Postgraduate Studies and Research Council issued on February 26, 1992.
  • In its session held on February 26, 1992, Postgraduate Studies and Research Council approved the recommendation that teaching staff members who teach university instructor preparation course must abide by the curricula ratified by University Council and must not divert from the content of the scientific curricula selected for these courses.
  •  On October 20, 1998, Postgraduate Studies and Research Council approved holding university instructor preparation course monthly.
  • No one can be appointed in the position of Lecturer at the University without taking university instructor preparation course according to article (59) of the executive bylaw of Universities Organization Law.
  •  On January 26, 2014, University Council approved disbursing bonuses of university instructor preparation course as follows:
    •  First: Teaching bonuses of trainers will be increased to 120 EGP per hour for a Professor, 100 EGP for Assistant Professor and 80 EGP for Lecturer.
    •  Second: The bonus is (120) EGP for each person attending each course for technicians, assistant services workers as follows :
      •  3 technicians and 3 assistant services workers.
      • Adding the name of Postgraduate Studies and Research General Manager is added to participants in courses at University Administration. His bonus is disbursed according to University Council decree of January 26, 2014.
